In 2005, the Forest Foundation, led by David Cygielman its Executive Director, created the first Moishe House. The Moishe Houses are a collection of homes throughout the United States that serve as a hub for young adult Jewish community (with an emphasis on ages 22-30). The Moishe House residents are provided with a rent subsidy and a program budget. This handful of young, eager, innovative Jews live in and create their vision of an ideal Jewish communal space.
In 2007 CLI entered into a partnership with the Forest Foundation in sponsorship of the Moishe Houses. This partnership has allowed for the expansion of the number of Moishe Houses around the globe and the development of a series of retreats for the residents of the Moishe Houses where they meet to improve the effectiveness and innovation in their program management and to strengthen the global Moishe House network.
There are currently 16 Moishe Houses in the following locations. For more information about the Moishe Houses, contact the Moishe House staff.
